What is coaching & is it for me?

Who needs a coach?

Well I sometimes half-jokingly say that everybody needs a coach. But in seriousness, I do believe coaching can be a huge boost to growth and thriving for most people.

I was in a season of transformation  when I first worked with a coach many years ago. Working with a Core Energy coach in that season of life was like a rocket boost in the direction I wanted to go. I maybe would have gotten there eventually but it would have been a lot more painful and taken A LOT longer. Coaching provided me space to process, analyze, dream, let go, define and take action. I need the accountability, space, encouragement and clarity that coaching provided.

What is Coaching?

Coaching is a modality that supports clients in moving forward. This might take place in individual sessions or group sessions. I am a strong believer in both therapy and coaching and believe these modalities can be complementary, but they are different.

  • Therapy helps us to look back and heal our past. It helps us to address traumas and mental health concerns. Coaching is different from therapy in that we might take a quick look at what’s happened in the past to help inform why our stories are what they are today; this helps to raise awareness, but the focus is on moving forward into growth and opportunity and possibility.

  • Coaching also isn’t consulting or mentoring. A certified coach is not going to tell you what to do or how to do it. A coach will partner with you to support your growth and develop actions and next steps that honor your goals.

The Power of Core Energy Coaching

As a certified Core Energy Coach, I help clients raise their awareness about where they are and where they want to go and begin to bridge the gap between here and there. I help clients release stress and destructive thoughts and beliefs. Identifying and clearing these inner blocks allows clients to move from reactive to proactive in any area of life they choose.

This type of inner transformation work is more than a temporary fix; the changes clients create are long-lasting and sustainable. Clients share that they experience greater flow and less stress and are often surprised to discover this lighter energy carries into other areas of life, beyond what they originally entered into coaching to address.

Is Coaching For Me?

The clients I work with are mission-driven and care deeply about others and their community. Common reasons these amazing people pursue coaching are:

  • New transitions into leadership

  • A desire for more intentionality and deeper presence at home and at work

  • Career goals: this can span a spectrum of reasons from working toward a promotion, to better collaboration with the board and everything in between

  • Skill development: improved speaking skills, time management, emotional intelligence and more

  • Stress management

  • Balance and boundaries

  • Disconnect from mission or passion

  • A deep knowing that more and better is possible

  • Overwhelming workload

  • Lack of clarity

  • Challenging professional relationships

  • Personal transitions (those that are planned and those that are unforeseen)

These and many more can all be great reasons to pursue coaching and inevitably what we find when we work with a coach is that we not only solve these challenges and meet these goals, but we really get to start to define WHO it is that we want to be in any given moment. Awareness is such a key part of coaching and is also a key discipline of leadership so it’s no wonder that coaching and leadership development pair so well together.

Tools for Development

I love getting to use the Energy Leadership Index assessment with clients early in our relationship together because it helps clients understand how they’re currently showing up and being perceived in the world, particularly under stress. It helps clients quickly identify areas where they are holding on to destructive energy and how that energy is impacting other areas of their lives. I offer these assessments individually or as 360 assessments. Those of us in the social impact sector have opportunities to influence so many people in our communities. These assessments are impactful for clients as they start to see how the way that they’re showing up might be impacting others and with that awareness they then get to choose whether that’s how they’d like to continue to show up.

Coaching packages are carefully designed to meet the needs of each client utilizing a blend of coaching tools and exercises and clients have the option to add-on to their coaching packages best-in-class leadership development curriculum to support their growth between sessions. Curriculum packages such as COR.E Dynamics Leadership support clients in creating their own success formula and developing as deeply empathic and influential leaders.

Moving Forward

Unpacking who and how you want to be allows you to explore and play and experiment and adjust all while being supported with a coach who is cheering you on and holding you accountable and encouraging you as you move forward. It is truly a deep joy for me to get to hold this type of space for clients.

If coaching is something that you’ve considered before I encourage you to reach out and schedule a free discovery session. In the session we will explore what your goals are and how you can begin to move in the direction of achieving them. If you have an inner craving for more, if you believe better is possible for you and your people, coaching will be a great next step.

Let’s explore how coaching can support you. Reach out and I’ll be here for you, ready to cheer you on!
